Sussex Regimented Diet

This is a balanced calorie deficit diet that can be used by patients who need to lose a small amount of weight or those who need to lose more. It is a balanced calorie deficit diet containing about 50% to 55% carbohydrate, 25% to 30% fat and approximately 20% protein. It does not involve any prepackaged food and the foods that are consumed on this diet can be bought at the grocery store.

Many fad diets have come and gone but this diet has stood the test of time. It is what is considered to be a prudent diet for good health maintenance.

The diet is relatively simple to follow and can be used not only by the dieter, but also by his or her family members as well.

Small feedings are distributed throughout the day in an attempt to help stimulate the metabolic rate.

Vitamin supplementation, which we strongly recommend on this diet, is also available through our office.

Regimented Diet with Medication

In the recent decade, there has been a renewed interest in using medications to assist people with their weight loss. It is important to remember medication is just a part of a comprehensive program. Ultimately, the ability of a patient to lose and maintain weight is dependent upon their motivation and perseverance.

Sussex Family Practice adheres to the anorectic guidelines which were developed in 1991 by The American Society of Bariatric Physicians. These guidelines assure that each patient is treated in a professional, thorough, and beneficial manner.

Because of our involvement with The American Society of Bariatric Physicians, new medications, changes in old medications, side effects, etc., are well known to us.

The future is exciting in terms of medication and it’s role in helping patients to lose and maintain weight. New medications are being evaluated at the present time for use in the future, not only for weight loss, but also for weight maintenance.

Before a patient can be placed on any type of medication for weight loss and/or maintenance, they need to have a thorough history and physical evaluation, laboratory workup and an EKG. Our concern is always for the safety and success of our patients.

If a person is a candidate for medication, the Sussex regimented diet is a perfect compliment. Weight loss on the Sussex regimented diet with medication averages about 1-1/2 to 2 pounds per week. Individual variations of course may account for differences in these amounts.
